My eyes have been burning for 2 weeks, the white part is always red and burning. Putting gel drops on them gives me temporary relief. Should I consult an optometrist?

It's tolerable, but really unpleasant. I am not congested and I don't sneeze constantly. Could it still be just seasonal allergies (even though I've never had them) or should I go see an optometrist? Thank you

Hello,
If your vision is impaired, you are more sensitive to light, your eye has been in contact with a chemical or heat, you need to see an optometrist or doctor. Also, if your eyes become painful, you should consult a doctor. If you have yellow crusts when you wake up and yellowish secretions, you can visit a pharmacy.
The first step, whether the cause is allergic or not, would be to properly moisturize your eyes, as dry eyes can cause irritation. You can start with benzalkonium-free artificial drops such as Systane™ or even Refresh™. You can apply these drops up to six times a day and apply a moisturizing ointment at night. If symptoms persist beyond 3 days with this treatment, you will need to consult.
