Are there any consequences to taking alvesco continuously over the long term? Thank you!

Hello, my son has childhood asthma and takes an alvesco inhalation every day. I had agreed with his pulmonologist that we would wait for his allergy tests before stopping his pumps for the summer. He has been taking his alvesco continuously since February 2020 since he had 3 pneumonias in a row during the winter. He had allergy tests last year and he had a sensitivity to cats but no allergies yet so we were supposed to have another appointment this summer. We are still waiting for that appointment and since we have two cats, we didn't dare stop the alvesco for the summer period as it is often recommended for children with childhood asthma. He is 2 years old soon 3 and his asthma is well controlled. He is not followed by his pulmonologist since everything was fine. I am also concerned about the context of the cvid and the stopping of the pumps.

Hello Ma'am,
Sorry for the delay in responding.
Yes, there are consequences to exposing a child to inhaled cortisone for very long periods of time. One thought is the bones, which can be more fragile.
It's certainly best to try a break in treatment to see how it goes, given that he's been on it for a long time and is better now.

This way, we could try a 7-day break and see how he responds.
