Can I take my birth control pill if I need to?

Hello, I take Micronor since June 18, 2021...but before I had an IUD that I removed (it made me swollen) and I didn't need contraception because my boyfriend at the time was cut, I did it to stop my period. Now, since June, I have a new boyfriend and so I need contraception...except that I notice that I am swollen again (especially in my lower abdomen), my breasts have been sensitive for the last two weeks, I have mood swings and I haven't had my period since August 5th. The pharmacist had prescribed me Micronor because I had asked him (while waiting to see my doctor on October 1st)... I had chosen this one as it was weaker hoping not to have its side effects but I still have them and also because I smoke occasionally. My boyfriend is gone for 28 days and comes back for 14 days and then goes back for 28 days, etc... it's his job. Considering that the pill is effective 5-7 days after he starts taking it...could I take it irregularly? I would take it 5 days before she arrives and take it over 14 days and stop it 28 days.... Maybe I could get rid of its effects... Could this be a solution? Is there another possibility? The diaphragm perhaps?

Hello, thank you for your question!
There is only one way to take Micronor and that is regularly. It is not like other combined contraceptives where you can take a break
The dosing schedule you suggest is more likely to compromise the effectiveness of your contraceptive, plus the risk that the side effects you experience will not diminish over time.
The best contraception for your situation would be a condom, given its effectiveness both as a contraceptive and in reducing the risk of STIs
I hope this has been helpful to you and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Except I'm allergic to latex and my boyfriend doesn't have a standard size...and the diaphragm?

The diaphragm is a solution but might be more difficult to get, as you have to order it from a pharmacy
That being said, there are latex-free condoms for people with allergies :)

Yes I know but even the largest ones don't fit... it's not the solution really

I agree. For the diaphragm you will probably have to ask your pharmacy to order some, as they are not commonly sold and available at the same level as condoms

Okay, thanks! I'll talk to my doctor too...
