What are the withdrawal symptoms of Effexor and the side effects of Wellbutrin?

58-year-old woman5 years ago
Hello,
I had been taking Effexor for 10 years and switched to Wellbutrin by gradually decreasing the Effexor and then gradually increasing the Wellbutrin. I have been off Effexor completely for 9 days. I am experiencing symptoms (foggy mind, intense emotions (but they don't last), heartache, physical pain, fatigue, etc.) that I am finding very difficult. Will they ever go away? Currently I am so zombie-like that I can't imagine functioning at work.

Do you think these symptoms are due to the Wellbutrin or rather Effexor withdrawal? Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your question. The symptoms you describe can indeed be associated with Effexor withdrawal. However, withdrawal should generally not last more than 5 to 7 days after stopping Effexor. Wellbutrin, however, may take 2 to 4 weeks to reach some effectiveness and up to 8 weeks to reach its maximum effectiveness, so if this is withdrawal, you should see these effects subside within a few days. Its main side effects are headache, constipation, nausea and dry mouth. These side effects occur mainly at the beginning of the treatment and generally subside after a few weeks.
