Bleeding after menstruation on the continuous pill: what to do?

23-year-old woman5 years ago
Hello, I am taking the pill continuously. I had some bleeding after 28 days so I stopped my pill on Thursday and I started taking it again this Wednesday. It's Thursday night and I took the pill twice but I still have some bleeding. Should I wait a few days to see if the bleeding stops or did I stop my pill the wrong number of days?

Hello, thank you for your question! In order to answer it properly, I have a few questions of my own:) 1) is it new for you to take the pill? 2) how long have you been taking the pill continuously? 3) is there an external cause that could have changed your cycle (e.g. major stress, illness (gastrointestinal or other)? Thank you Emmanuelle

I have been taking it since January 2019 continuously, I was not taking anything before and no there is no external cause

Usually when you start an oral contraceptive, you give yourself a 3-4 month period during which you may experience some bleeding, either spotting or bleeding as such. It is important then to continue taking the contraceptive as usual (so continuously in your case), and everything should be fine. In your case, the bleeding should stop within a few days. If after April you still have unexplained bleeding, it would be better to consult your doctor. I hope this answers your question! Good day, Emmanuelle
