I have had a Mirena IUD for 8 years, when I went to have it changed at 5 years, the doctor told me it was good for 8 years. I have been waiting to have it changed since June 2021 and it is now expired. I still have no periods so I have no idea what my cycle is.

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question!
The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada has reported that the Mirena can be effective for up to7 years, if the person was 25 years of age or older at the time the IUD was inserted.
In any case, I have not found any references indicating 8 years. So I urge you to make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible, and to avoid unprotected sex (i.e. your partner should be wearing a condom), as it is impossible to know the effectiveness at this time.
