Knee cramps?

43-year-old woman4 years ago
I wake up several times in the night with cramps in my knee. It hurts a lot. What could be causing this? I have had the same thing for 3 years and it happens when the cold weather starts. Last year, I went to acupuncture and after 3 sessions, it was resolved. I have an appointment next week, but in the meantime, I would like to know what I could do. I have tried antiphlogistine and it doesn't help. It's really annoying, it wakes me up several times during the night, especially early in the morning before I wake up. Thank you so much.

Hello, ma'am
One of the best solutions for cramps is stretching the muscles around the knees: quadriceps, hamstrings and calf muscles. Here are some pretty well structured and clear videos to try, not just at bedtime, but I also suggest two to three times a day:
Quadriceps
Hamstrings
Calves
Good hydration is necessary, as it allows for a good balance of electrolytes as well.
Hope this helps, don't hesitate if you have any other questions!

Thank you, I will try this. On the other hand, it hurts to exercise, my knees get tired in the morning because of the cramps I had at night. I will drink more water too. Just going up and down the stairs is hard 😕

Doing normal activities such as walking up and down the stairs should not cause you so many problems. I would encourage you to see a doctor or physiotherapist. An examination of your posture, back and legs by a professional would be pertinent to ensure that there is not another problem at the source of your symptoms. Your doctor can also check to see if there is another possible source.
