What if I change my birth control method?

20-year-old woman3 years ago
Hello, I am going to see my family doctor on Wednesday July 28th to change my current method of contraception (pill). I would like to switch to the shot and my current pack ends this Saturday. I was wondering if I should stop it this Saturday or should I take a new one? Thank you and have a nice day!

Hello, thank you for your question!
Basically, it's up to you. Will the doctor start the injections on Wednesday at your appointment? And which 'injection' is it? The new Nexplanon implant, or the medroxyprogesterone injection?
In any case, if the hormone-free period exceeds 7 days, you will have to take precautions to avoid getting pregnant while the new contraceptive takes effect.
Since there is some information missing about the type of product you are taking (type of contraceptive, size of 21 or 28 tablets), and the one you will receive, I strongly recommend that you talk to your pharmacist and/or your doctor during your appointment.
I hope I have answered your questions, and I am available if you have any other questions!
