(This is a continuation of my first question asked on December 3rd: I could not answer it anymore...) I am a speech therapist. I would like to know the possible effects of such a medication on the development of a young child. Thank you.

Good morning, ma'am,
Chronic use of topical corticosteroids is linked to the presence of several possible side effects. And while the literature mentions that use in 6 to 17 year olds for a period of 4 months seems safe, nothing seems to point in the same direction for a child as young as 3 years old (https://onlinelibrary-wiley-com.acces.bibl.ulaval.ca/doi/full/10.1111/pai.12032 and https://www-ncbi-nlm-nih-gov.acces.bibl.ulaval.ca/pubmed/27890006).
First, when the product is instilled into the nasal passages, thinning of the skin walls may occur. Some form of dysphonia and bleeding could occur.
Also, it is not impossible that the product is absorbed at the systemic level, sometimes resulting in Cushing's syndromes or relative adrenal insufficiency.
Hoping to be of help,
Alexandre Chagnon, pharmacist
