no medication other than micronor taken regularly. natural products taken orally such as aloe vera, inulin, betaine, milk thistle, dandelion root? is there a list somewhere of what to avoid completely?

Hello Madam,
First of all, it is quite normal that your doctor does not pronounce on the risk of taking these products during breastfeeding, since few data are available on their use in this phase of life.
In order to be able to answer your question, would it be possible to know for what exactly you are taking each of these products?
There is no list as such, but I do have access to databases that will be useful to answer your question.

These are ingredients from an it works product that I used to take once a month before I got pregnant. I was thinking that since they have npn's they must have had some data.

Unfortunately, the presence of an NPN on a product only guarantees that the product has been manufactured in compliance with certain Health Canada standards, not that it has any safety data for use by pregnant or nursing women.
According to TRC's Natural Medicines resource:
Aloes vera should be avoided while breastfeeding;
Inulin should be avoided while breastfeeding;
Bellyfish should be avoided while breastfeeding;
Dandelion root should be avoided while breastfeeding;
Good day,
Alexandre Chagnon, Pharmacist
