Chronic use of Benadryl is not recommended because it requires taking it several times a day (its effects do not last very long), and because it can cause a lot of drowsiness, which can interfere with your activities that require alertness. There are other options available to you that are much more effective, easy to take, and better tolerated
Among these options are 2nd generation anti-histamines such as Reactin, Aerius, and Claritin. They all have a long duration of action, so they are taken only once a day, and are much less likely to cause drowsiness. They are safe in the long term and also if you ever want to get pregnant.
