What contraception can I take if I have migraines and I smoke?

40-year-old woman3 years ago
Smoker and migraine sufferer, I was prescribed Jencycla to reduce strong spm and migraine. Does not work for me because of excessive bleeding. Can I take another progestin pill? I have read that the hormone desogestrel is progestational and often anovulant. Thank you for your help!

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question!
Unfortunately, desogestrel is not available on its own like the progestin in Micronor, it is combined with an estrogenic component.
Regarding the bleeding you report with Micronor, would it be possible to know how long you have been taking it, and if you take it at the same time every day?

I stopped it after 11 days of bleeding, I was dizzy. Without the pill I had my period for 5 to 6 days and without heavy bleeding. Yes I took it at the same time, I had an alert on my phone

Thanks for the clarification!
I don't know if this was discussed with you, but there are other progestin-only methods, such as the Depo-Provera injection, every 12 weeks, and IUDs, with progestin or no hormone at all
If you wish, your pharmacist can contact your doctor with suggestions for alternatives
