Can Rogaine help my hair loss?

64-year-old woman5 years ago
Hello! I have been taking Cipralex 15 mg and Trazodone 25 mg for 6 months. After 4 months, I noticed a loss of hair. I saw my doctor on January 8th and she made me take some tests (anemia, thyroid gland) and my results are normal. I don't see my doctor again until the end of March. So, it's probably my antidepressants that are making me lose my hair. Could Rogaine help me with my hair loss?

Hello Madam, thank you for your question. The Cipralex monograph mentions hair loss in its rarer side effects. It is therefore not impossible that this medication contributes to this problem. My research did not find anything for trazodone, but you should know that hair loss is often due to several factors. Rogaine has been shown to be useful especially in the treatment of hair loss related to a hormonal problem (androgenic alopecia). You could try it, but without expecting a big efficiency. Moreover, you should know that the effects of Rogaine are expected after several weeks, even several months, so you will have to be patient. In this context, we must keep in mind the cost of Rogaine and the possibility that it is not effective. Rogaine is available over the counter at 2% and 5%, I invite you to see your pharmacist in order to discuss it further, or you can also consult me. Pleasure Tom Samaha
