I have a lesion in the shape of a circle on my buttock. What else can I do besides seeing a dermatologist?

For a few months I have had a rash on my right buttock only, in the shape of a circle. I was prescribed Teva-Mometasone ointment. I followed the dosage but the problem persists. I have an appointment scheduled for the end of May with a dermatologist.

Hello,
It is difficult for me to assess the rash you are talking about since I cannot see it. However, since you are talking about a round lesion and a cortisone cream (like the one you were prescribed) does not seem to have worked, one could think of a fungus. You can go look at pictures of Tinea corporis on Google to compare with the lesion on your buttock. If it has a lighter (whitish) center with a redder outline, it is possibly a fungus. If in doubt, you can show a picture to your pharmacist.
If you think it's a fungus, you can try an antifungal cream. Over the counter, there is a Clotrimazole 1% cream (Canesten, Clotrimaderm, etc.) It can be used twice a day for a period of 2 weeks. If improvement is noticed after this period, continue until 3-4 days after the lesion is gone.
If this attempt does not work, the dermatologist will be the best person to evaluate your lesion and make a diagnosis.
I hope this answers your question,
Sandrine
