Polysporin drops are used to treat only one type of ear infection, i.e. swimmer's ear. Symptoms appear in the days following the child's bathing by putting the head under water. The child will have mild to moderate pain, but no hearing loss and no fever. His or her general condition is not affected
If the pain did not occur in this setting, Polysporin drops are not indicated. A doctor should be consulted to evaluate your child's ear. However, if there is no fever or severe pain, it is possible to wait 72 hours before consulting a doctor to see how the symptoms turn out.
