3 year old baby with a red eye?

Hello, my 3 and a half year old son has been complaining of pain in his eye since this morning, it heats up at times, his eyelid and eye area is a bit swollen and red. Can I put drops or an ointment on it? If so, which product should I buy? Thanks a lot, that's what I did :)
