Which seasonal allergy medications do not cause drowsiness?

27-year-old woman3 years ago
Hello, I have seasonal allergies and need to take medication to relieve my symptoms. I have tried Reactin 10mg and Cetirizine 20mg. However, both make me very drowsy and I am unable to do my daily activities, even if the pill is taken before going to bed the night before. What allergy medication works well and does not make me drowsy? Thank you very much :)

Hello
Reactine and cetirizine are in fact the same medication, cetirizine. This molecule can cause drowsiness, but less so than diphenhydramine (Benadryl) or chlorpheniramine (Chlor-Tripolon).
You could try loratadine (Claritin), desloratadine (Aetius) or Allegra, which do not cause drowsiness (at best very little). These medications have the same dosage of 1 tablet once a day.
