Can stomach medicine cause shortness of breath and sputum?

56-year-old woman5 years ago
Hello, for a long time I've been taking prescription medication for my stomach, interspersed with gaviscon because I have a lot of heartburn. For the last 3 weeks I have been seeing my family doctor and he has added sandoz ranitide 150mg per day in addition to pantoprazole. My question: is it possible that it gives me shortness of breath even when sitting down and clear sputum in addition to the last week I had tightening in my stomach that hurt like a line that went to my throat and gum. I suffer from post-traumatic stress and take several medications as well.

Good morning, Madam, The side effects you describe (shortness of breath and sputum) are probably not related to Ranitidine or pantoprazole. These medications have a very high risk of respiratory side effects. Are these the only changes that have been made to your medications recently?

and increase Myrbetriq from .25mg to 50mg

Myrbetriq™ causes very little respiratory risk. It may, however, alter your anxiety response to medication somewhat. It may be tempting to momentarily decrease the dose of Myrbetriq and see how well your symptoms change. I recommend that you try this in partnership with your doctor and pharmacist. Have a good day, Alexandre
