I have chronic headaches (>10-15 days per month), which results in me using a lot of Advil and Tylenol.

Hello,

There are several medications that can treat migraines, either as an acute treatment (such as the painkillers Tylenol, Advil, "triptans" like Zomig, and others) or as a preventive treatment (such as Elavil and other medications). Very often, taking painkillers like Tylenol or Advil too often can lead to headaches that are called "drug-induced headaches". In order to stop suffering from these, the painkillers should be stopped and even if the headaches get worse at first, they will eventually get better. However, I suggest that you discuss all of this with your neurologist to see what option is most appropriate for your situation, as this seems to be a chronic problem for you. The neurologist may also want to switch to a "rescue" medication, your Zomig, which does not seem to have been effective

What I can suggest in the meantime are non-pharmacological measures to help calm and prevent migraines. To treat: Resting in the dark with no lights, no noise, no strong odors, can help calm migraines. To prevent: do not stare at a computer or television screen for too long, wear your glasses as often as possible if applicable, wear sunglasses when the light is strong, have a regular sleep routine (sleep 7-8 hours a day and always get up/sleep at the same time), avoid migraine stimulants such as caffeine, heat, spices, alcohol, etc. (each person has their own stimulants, you will eventually identify them)

Okay, thank you. So, if I understand correctly, until I see my neurologist again, I am better off not taking Advil or tylenol. However, a constant but relatively mild pain remains. Or,

I used to take Elavil for prevention, but I had to constantly increase the dose. I didn't want to take a drug all the time, so now I don't take it anymore
