I am 62 years old and have been taking Effexor for a few years now because of digestive problems. It does not make me fat, which I appreciate. But as far as "libido", orgasm,... are concerned, there is not much left on this side. I know that for men there are several "gadgets" and even medication. But for women, I think they have forgotten us! This could save many couples! Would you have something to suggest to me? Medication or natural products, ...... that would help me in this area? Thank you for answering me.

Hello Ma'am,
There are several options available to you.
First of all, it should be noted that planning "date nights" helped a lot to regain sexual desire. This is actually one of the first things that people who perform coaching in this type of situation will tell you.
If this does not help enough, you should know that there are also gadgets for women, and references like UpToDate recommend them in situations like yours. This could help you on many levels.
Finally, if all of these options don't work sufficiently, it is possible to change the antidepressant to one possessing less impact on sexual function. One of these is bupropion. This last option is more risky, especially if you are stable on Effexor. I invite you to discuss this with your doctor.
Good day,
Alexandre Chagnon, pharmacist
