I need to put Polysporin on a wound (recommended by a doctor), but I just had a hives-like reaction. What can I replace this ointment with?

I cut the right side of my knee about an inch. The doctor at the emergency room gave me stitches which were removed on Wednesday the 14th at the emergency room of the hospital. The wound healed well and the doctor told me to put polysporin for a week. But I had a reaction and that's why I'm contacting you. Last night it stung so much that I woke up. I would like to replace this ointment with something else to protect and continue the healing

Hello,
You could replace the polysporin with bactroban, an over-the-counter antibiotic that you should ask your pharmacist for.
If the itching does not go away, I recommend that you have the wound assessed by a doctor or nurse. We offer the services of a nurse by appointment at our pharmacy.
