I have got the mirena IUD since last February. Since, I have no periods at all, loss of hair, mood swings and weight gain. Should I remove it?

I don’t have a partner and I’m not sexually active since the insertion... feels kinda useless and I regret having a it done. I recently left the army but I do not have my health insurance card yet (RAMQ) if I go to the emergency would they remove it?

Hi,
The Mirena IUD is containing an hormone call levonorgestrel. It can be normal to lose your period while on this IUD (and sometime it is something that is wanted).
While mood swing, weight gain and lost of hair can be associated with hormone supplement, it can be also be related to other factor (stress, change in your life, etc.). The choice to keep the Mirena is entirely yours. You have the advantage with this method to have a long protection (5 years) without doing anything else, but there is also other treatment that can be tried with different hormone concentration that can suit you better.
For your last question, to remove the devise, it doesn't seem like an emergency. You'll be better to try to find a clinic without appointment or try to check with the CLSC of your region. By doing so, you'll probably be able to talk to a nurse or a doctor about your different options if you decide to remove the Mirena but still want something else for contraception.
