A drop of vitamin D fell in my baby's eye this afternoon and he still has a red eye and eyelid (5 hours later).

Hello,
Sorry for the delay in response.
In situations like this, the best thing to do is to call the Poison Control Center (1-800-463-5060). This will allow you to get a very quick response, which is often necessary to manage a problem like the one you describe.
Vitamin D is not allergenic or toxic to mucous membranes, so the redness you describe is probably the result of simple inflammation. Therefore, you should monitor the redness and visit a medical clinic if the redness is still present today.
When the drop went into the eye, you could have tried putting a little water in the eye to dilute the vitamin and thus reduce the irritation.
For future intakes of this medication, it would be better to put the drop on the breast before breastfeeding rather than directly into the mouth. The drop can also be put on a bottle nipple if the child is not breastfeeding.
