Hello, my 5 year old boy had a stomach bug 6 days ago (diarrhea only, no vomiting) and the diarrhea persists.

I tried kaopectate syrup, but it didn't work. The problem is that he has difficulty holding it in and he soils his underwear at school. It is embarrassing and uncomfortable for him. Is there anything we can give him to help "solidify" his stool?
thank you!

Hello and thank you for asking your question on this platform
Unfortunately the effects of the gastro can last up to 2 weeks in total. If he doesn't have a fever and no blood in his stool (should consult if this is the case), I recommend that you give him 1/2 tablet (1 mg) of imodium. This formulation also exists in liquid if it is easier for him. We can give this dose up to 3 times a day at his age but often 1 dose is enough and works after 1 hour. This medication only relieves the symptoms but if you want to speed up the healing, I recommend that you give him probiotics daily for the next week
I hope I have answered your questions? Have a nice day and don't hesitate if you have any other questions

Thanks a lot! The liquid imodium will be easier for him indeed. For his weight of 45lbs, what will be the dosage?

Ah it's the same dosage, 1mg. I had misread it! Thanks a lot, we'll try this today
