The first action to take is to avoid dehydration related to diarrhea. Even at 5 months of age, you can give your daughter pedialyte. Pedialyte is used to replace the electrolytes lost in diarrhea.
Also, to reduce diarrhea, a probiotic can be used. For babies, Bio-Gaïa is used. These are drops that can be easily administered. You must be careful, however, not to give the probiotic too close to the antibiotic, since it could harm it. There should be a 4-hour interval between the two products.
If the diarrhea is very severe (more than 8-10 bowel movements per day), I suggest you go back to your pharmacist. He or she could ask the doctor to change the antibiotic.
