Is there a product sold in pharmacies that can treat fungus on a nail so thick that no nail clippers can cut it?

It is the nail of my mother's little toe that is affected by fungus. Even with scissors, it is very difficult to cut. The Pharmachien claims that over-the-counter topical products are not effective because they do not penetrate the nail but the laser is very expensive.

Hello,

The information you found through the Pharmachien is true. It is very common to encounter patients who have not been able to resolve their fungal problem with topical products. Perhaps this is partly because you have to be very "observant", i.e., remember to apply the product as prescribed. In any case, it is still possible to try one, since the oral alternative is "more toxic", requires regular monitoring of liver function and could cause interactions with other medications. Emtrix is one option, but there are others.

Among the other alternatives to laser treatment, there is also the complete removal of the nail (pulling it out surgically). It sounds drastic when you put it that way, but when it is very uncomfortable, when it involves only one nail (the small one here) and when alternative treatments are either impractical or ineffective, it remains an option. We are not there yet, but keep that in mind.
