I started a prescription for lolo yesterday (Sunday) and a friend of mine says that every time she took the pill she gained 10 pounds.

There is good evidence that the use of combined hormonal contraceptives (including Lolo) is not associated with substantial weight gain. The same is true for the IUD and progesterone-only oral contraceptives (Micronor). The only contraceptive known to cause weight gain is medroxyprogesterone injection (Depo-Provera), which causes an increase in appetite. However, the list of adverse effects of combined oral contraceptives includes the possibility of slight weight gain or loss. It should also be noted that 1.3% of women will experience swelling of the limbs and some will experience an increase in breast size. I hope that this reassures you, despite your friend's personal experience.
