I am 5 weeks pregnant and I stopped my Valtrex (genital) just in case for 1 week. I was taking it continuously. Can I take it again?

I used to take it continuously, because 4 years ago I had several relapses. Since I've been taking it continuously, I don't think I've had any relapses. I stopped it a week ago because I was afraid of a miscarriage or malformation with the pregnancy. I also take metformin (fertility treatment). Can I take it again (1 tablet of 500 mg per day) continuously?

Hello Ma'am,
Yes, I would recommend you take it again. This medication is very well tolerated during pregnancy.
Discuss this with your doctor at your next appointment. Occasionally, some people try to stop when it has been several years since Valtrex™ prevention has been used and the person has not suffered episodes for several years. It should be noted, however, that stopping the drug during pregnancy is rarely tested, as most women have a decreased immune system at this time, making a relapse more likely.
Good evening,
