I take Alesse and I don't have a bleeding period?

26-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, I have been taking the Alesse contraceptive pill for 7 years. I take but 4 weeks of pink pills, then the 7 days of white pills (not continuous). My periods have stopped quietly with time. It's been 10 months since I had a period and it worries me (I'm not pregnant). I talked to a nurse who told me it was worrying. I don't know what to do with it, should I consult? Could this be a sign that I'm having more trouble having children? Can I get my period started by changing my birth control pills? I can't see my family doctor for 2 months.

Thank you for your question!
I would like to reassure you: the bleeding period that women have during the period without hormones (7 days or less) are not menstruations, but withdrawal bleeding. The contraceptive pill taken regularly prevents ovulation, so there is no menstruation. This bleeding period with contraception is not necessary for health or fertility. Traditional' contraceptives have this 7-day hormone-free period because it tends to reassure women, but this hormone-free period is not necessary
Many people take a contraceptive continuously and will have little or no bleeding, but fertility is restored when the contraceptive is stopped.
That being said, the absence of bleeding, even during the discontinuation period, is a possible side effect of the birth control pill. However, this does not indicate a problem.
The only way to get a period is to stop or suspend your birth control pill
I hope I have reassured you, I am still available if there is anything!
