Should I see a doctor or what should I do to stop the diarrhea? Thank you for your help!

Hi, I caught my daughter's stomach bug a week ago (last Sunday). I had some vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. The vomiting stopped the same day, but the diarrhea continued 3 days later. I have no more abdominal pain. My stool had started to settle down, but since yesterday (Saturday), the diarrhea has started again. Is this normal? What should I do about it? Thanks a lot!

Hello,
I have some questions for you:
Have you been hospitalized lately?
Do you have any other symptoms, allergies, other medications?
If there is no particular condition, you can try Imodium over the counter at a rate of 2 tablets immediately, then 1 tablet after each liquid stool, maximum 8 tablets per day for a period of 48 hours, if there is no improvement, you should consult a doctor.
It is also important to stay hydrated by using rehydration solutions and also to adopt a diet that can help (rice, carrots, bananas...).
Remember that diarrhea is defined by more than 3 liquid stools per day.
Have a nice day!

Hello,
Thank you for the precious advice. I have not had any hospitalization lately and I have been taking Cipralex 10 mg for 1 year and I am allergic to penicillin.
Otherwise, no other symptoms. What could be causing the diarrhea not to go away?
Thank you very much!

Hello,
The duration of a gastrointestinal illness varies, but generally does not last more than 1 to 2 days. However, some symptoms can last more than a week to 10 days. Beyond that, a consultation is necessary.
Thank you for your help!
