Can a pharmacist prescribe a treatment for cold sores?

20-year-old woman2 years ago
hello I have cold sores often (every few months or so) I would like to be prescribed valtrex or something else to help my situation by my family doctor but she is currently on maternity leave so I would have to go to the walk-in clinic but I don't think it's important enough to go to the walk-in clinic which is already overflowing

Thank you for your question!
Have you ever received this type of treatment in the last 5 years? If so, your pharmacist could evaluate with you the possibility of prescribing for cold sores after a short consultation
If not, you will have to consult a doctor, for example in a walk-in clinic.
Sincerely
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
