I have recently been experiencing acne and breast pain due to hormonal imbalance. Between the pill, the IUD and Accutane, which should I choose?

Since one year hormonal imbalance, shortened cycle, breast pain, pimples (like cysts) temples and chin before, during and after menstruation. PMS problems since always and from 15 to 26 years old, I took the pill. I've been advised the pill or an IUD to help, even acutane is a solution from my dermatologist. I would like to know which option is more effective? Thank you!

To know which solution is the most effective for you, you'll have to try them. In this case, considering the risk of side effects from Accutane (and because it won't solve your breast pain), I suggest that you try to rebalance your cycle with low-dose hormones. The pill and the IUD are both good choices and if your doctor has offered them to you, you should not have any contraindications to taking them.

If you ask me, the pill probably offers the easiest solution here. It will be easier to discontinue if you have a side effect (removing the IUD requires a doctor's intervention) and may be able to control your menstrual cycle disturbances a little more quickly.

It is important to know that at your age you should not smoke while taking the pill. Indeed, it increases the risk of side effects (e.g. blood clots).

Thank you very much for your time and for your generous advice. Do you know what kind of pill is most effective for hormonal acne? Thank you!

All pills are effective in this respect. There are some pills that contain an anti-androgenic progestin (e.g.: Yaz), but to my knowledge they have not proven to be more effective than "normal" pills.
