Is it normal to have diarrhea when taking Cipralex, even after 10 weeks?

40-year-old woman3 years ago
I take 20 mg of Cipralex in the morning (it started at 10 mg too) and I often have loose or watery stools in the morning (after breakfast). What can I do to help? I had cut out alcohol completely, but it didn't help. I think Cipralex is starting to work and since I don't have a stomach ache, I don't want to change my medication (for anxiety disorders). What can I do or eat to help. I often take Advils for headaches. Could this be the cause?

Hello, thank you for your question!
Yes, it is possible that Cipralex causes diarrhea. However, this is usually a side effect that is temporary with this medication.
I would advise you, first and foremost, to take it in the middle of your meal, in order to try as much as possible to reduce the extent of the diarrhea, if caused by Cipralex.
Secondly, I would advise you to keep a diary of your food and stress as well: you will write down what you have eaten and drunk, as well as the situations that may have caused you anxiety. This way, you may be better able to find out if a particular food or event is the cause.
Finally, taking ibuprofen can also cause diarrhea. It is suggested that you reduce the dose and take it with food, if it is absolutely necessary.
I hope I have helped you, and I am available if you have any other questions!

Thank you for your advice! I take my Cipralex when I get up in the morning, along with my multivitamin. I will try to take it during my breakfast. Thank you. :)
