My two month old baby has a blocked nose only at night. When he blows his nose, his snot is transparent, white. What could be the cause of this?

Hello!
the presence of nasal secretions in infants is normal. In fact, all humans, children as well as adults, live with the constant production of nasal secretions in their airways, which act as a protective barrier against certain micro-organisms, or ensure that the air we breathe is humidified and warmed. In the newborn baby, the airways are confronted with a new environment, from the humid environment in the amniotic sac during pregnancy to a much drier environment after birth. This results in a relative drying of the secretions already present in the respiratory tract, and these will become more viscous/dense, making it difficult to evacuate them through the back of the throat, as is normally done.
Also, the supine position tends to move secretions from the more distal areas of the back passages to the nasal septum or throat, leading to congestion or sometimes coughing.
Continue to use the baby wipe in combination with saline solution in the nasal passages to help liquefy the thick mucus (I once had a lecture from an ENT specialist who recommended doing this at every diaper change to get the child used to the gesture so that he/she is more likely to accept it later on, when respiratory infections occur) If you feel that your child is unable to breathe because of the congestion, if he develops other symptoms or if his general condition deteriorates (refuses to eat, crying increases dramatically, etc.), a medical consultation may be necessary.
Good luck!
