33-year-old woman5 years ago
Hello, I was prescribed Apo Doxy 100 mg twice a day for a bacterial infection but I forgot to ask if it could diminish the effect of my contraceptive pill? I take the loestrin pill, thank you in advance!

Hello, yes, there is a risk that the antibiotic may decrease the effectiveness of the contraceptive pill. It is recommended to use a 2nd protection, such as a condom, during the whole treatment, plus a 7 days after the end of the treatment. For example, if your antibiotic treatment lasts 10 days, you should use a condom for 17 days. Dr. Jean-Samuel Poisson, pharmacist Familiprix Wickham 819-741-0080
