Antihistamines: which one to use in pregnancy?

37-year-old woman5 years ago
I am 5-6 weeks pregnant. I take zoloft and synthroid. As weird as it sounds, I react to the dust created by nail applications. When I go to the hairdresser, there is a nail technician and about 3 hours later I start to have a runny nose, cough and congestion for 2-3 days. Some time ago I was taking antihistamines before and after my appointment and it reduced my symptoms a lot. But now, pregnant, can I take something? If so, what? Thank you

Hello, Indeed, even if you are pregnant, some anti-histamines such as Claritin or Reactin WITHOUT DECONGESTION can be used safely during pregnancy, regardless of the trimester of your pregnancy. Thank you and have a nice day! MG

Thank you. Won't Claritin or Reactin have any interaction with zoloft or synthroid?

NO clinically significant interaction as long as the product is NOT combined with a decongestant! Thank you! MG

However, as with all medications, I suggest that you use it only as needed for short periods of time! Thank you, MG
