Hello ! I would like to know what medications are essential to have at home for a baby. I would like to make a small kit for myself. Thank you!

Hello, what a good question :)! First of all, congratulations to you for your child. I hope your final preparations go well and wish you many beautiful moments with little one.
First, about the medication:
MEDICATIONS -Vitamin D. If baby is breastfed, he needs a little boost of vitamin D. The doctor will certainly prescribe it; -Tylenol/Advil drops. It is better to have a bottle of each at home, to be bought just before the birth to avoid a quick expiration. Ask your pharmacist for the precise dose according to weight, as some labels are sometimes imprecise.
-Benadryl. Hopefully this product will never be used, but it can be useful in case of a severe allergic reaction, or on the skin! Do not hesitate to consult your pharmacist if in doubt before giving it.
And that's it! Other products could be purchased as needed, such as rehydration packets, but can always be purchased later in consultation with your pharmacist or pediatrician.
Well, since we're talking pharmacy, let me also suggest some other products to add to your list, just in case! :
CREAMS -Moisturizing cream or lotion. Apply an unscented cream or lotion for dryness. A baby's skin will take whatever you give it! Look for the "hypoallergenic" label ; -Changing cream. These help prevent the appearance of redness/irritation on the buttocks. Be careful if you use cloth diapers: select a compatible cream. Here, several options are possible for prevention (natural creams, zinc creams, liniment oleo-calcaire, protective ointments, zinc pastes, sprays, etc.) to be selected according to your preferences (application, reaction of the baby's skin, environmental preferences, etc.). If irritation/redness intensifies despite application, consult your pharmacist or pediatrician! CLEANSERS -For baby's skin, choose a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser. This will prevent skin irritation and a lot of worry! A good buy: 2-in-1 (body-hair)! Avoid bubble baths; -Why not also choose baby safe laundry, dish or surface detergents? :)
MATERIALS -A baby fly! A little one can catch many colds in his first months. A baby fly, along with saline water (also called saline) to wet the nose will help decongest baby. In addition to saline water (0.9%) for the nose, a bottle of sterile saline water will be useful to clean wounds and soft for the skin ; -A thermometer. Essential in case of fever. Your professionals will ask you for baby's temperature in case of infection. Moreover, this one must be taken at the level of the anus (rectal) for a more precise catch. Therefore, bring a thermometer only for the little one ;) ; -Various bandages ; -Sterile compresses: can be useful to clean the eyes or wounds ; -Soft washcloths/wipes. Don't forget yourself either! If you are breastfeeding, a lanolin cream or other nursing balm can help relieve irritation. A moisturizer is essential for you as well (it can be the same one used for baby!) Also, for your product selection, I suggest you choose baby specific products ideally without harmful ingredients! Again, congratulations on the impending birth! If you have any other questions, don't hesitate! Michael Cardinal, pharmacist
