I gave birth 48 hours ago and I have had a disturbance of the sense of smell since. I smell the same everywhere (blood or medicine smell)

Can this be a side effect of a medication? (I received the epidural, an intravenous medication to stimulate contractions and saline)

Good evening, ma'am,
I don't think this problem is due to the medication you received. It is difficult to determine the source of the scent but did you have a vaginal delivery (not a cesarean)? Are you back at home (not still in the hospital)?
It might help me to find a reason for this problem... If not, do you think the nostrils are dry?

Yes, I had a vaginal delivery, with episiotomy. I was only in the hospital for 24 hours but I didn't notice the problem until I got home. I don't have dry nostrils

Ok and now that it's been a few days, is it still there?

It's a little less bad at the moment

Hmmm ok, well it's hard to put your finger on the problem. If it's improved that's a good sign. Basically I suggest you wait and then talk to your doctor at your follow-up. Unfortunately I can't be of more help than that =S
I wish you a good day and don't hesitate if you have other questions!
